Well the buzz in chennai is about dasavatharam..every1 as usual have an opinion on it...some are awed by it, some think its a mere waste of time, both the actor's as well as ours...well here is what i think of the movie..
i think its like the movie 'matrix'..remember, the first time u saw it? u wr awe-stuck by its graphics and stunts that u never bothered to dwell into the story part of it...you saw it again to comprehend the theme, n now after 2 sequels also u still have not understood the director's tots completely....
Kamal i guess is sick of being branded as an intellectual..he wanted to make a movie which the massess wl also understand..so he sugar( or masala) -coated it using the ingredients of the chef- K S Ravikumar...kudos to ravikumar for making an extremely intelligent film sound like a dumb movie...tho kamal has cleverly sprinkled clues all over the movie to tell he his class apart from the others...he has beautifully deconstructed a complicated story line and made it as simple as possible a la steven spielberg style...
Compromise- this is what kamal has done for the sake of the producer n director. The brilliance u saw at the begining of the movie wanes slowly post the interval...i feel this movie cld hv been 10 times better had it had a more intelligent director...dialogues are witty and outstanding in some parts...
All actors except Kamal of course have little or nothing much to do than to share the screen space with Kamal.Technically sound. A superb script but heavily watered down(by the climax tsunami?) due to the constraints of tamil cinema. Its like a roller-coaster kinda ride with its highs n low...can be watched atleast twice.
Cheers,
Deepak G
